On February 28, 2026, the Coast Guard community will unite at various locations, including gyms, parks, and even on cutters at sea, to participate in the annual Coast Guard Aviation Workout to Remember. This event honors the memory of fallen heroes, notably the four crew members of helicopter CG-6535, who tragically lost their lives in a crash in Mobile, Alabama, in 2012.

The Workout to Remember has grown to commemorate all those who have died during Coast Guard missions and training. Through the sale of commemorative t-shirts and fitness gear, as well as donations, participants will raise funds for the Coast Guard Foundation’s Fallen Heroes Scholarship program. Puddle Pirate, a company that makes the Workout to Remember t-shirt, donates 15% of each sale to support this cause.

Since its inception in 2012, the initiative has raised over $24,000, helping children of fallen heroes get an education.

Max Cimoli, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer leading the volunteer effort, shared the significance of the event. “It’s a beautiful tribute to the families of the crew members, showing that their legacy endures—they will never be forgotten,” he stated.

He further explained that this workout is not just a physical challenge but a tradition that brings honor and respect to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. “It allows us to dedicate a bit of our pain and sweat to remember those who gave everything they had. This event is a fundamental part of the Coast Guard aviation and fitness communities.” Cimoli encourages all Coast Guard units to participate, regardless of location. “You don’t need to be at an air station. You can complete the workout at home, in your gym, or a CrossFit box. Share your experiences on social media—every contribution helps honor the crews and support the Coast Guard Foundation.”

Cimoli reflected on the spirit of the event: “The last Coast Guard Workout to Remember had hundreds of participants at the Atlantic City air station. It was a fantastic atmosphere—people working out together, sharing meals, conversing, and honoring those who have passed away.” We invite you to join the Coast Guard Workout to Remember on or around February 28, 2026, and help commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of Coast Guard members everywhere. #cgwodtoremember
