Tana Ramsay, 51: Her Favorite Workouts for Balancing Family Life and Fitness

Beyond her work in the spotlight, Tana Ramsay exemplifies commitment and athleticism, immersing herself in marathons, triathlons, and Ironman events.

As her children have matured, Tana discovered that she had more time to dedicate to fitness. ‘With weekends free, I can dive into activities like cycling, swimming, or running,’ she explained during her triathlon training alongside her husband, Gordon, on Lorraine. This shared passion also serves as a wonderful opportunity for family bonding. ‘It’s wild and exhilarating! Gordon suggested I participate and I thought, “What better way to spend time than embracing the cold and training together?”‘

The flexibility inherent in triathlons is part of their charm, especially when cycling. ‘We can ride our bikes for four hours, take breaks for lunch, and keep going. Unlike running, where cramping can lead to discomfort, cycling is more sociable,’ Tana shared. Additionally, she noted the growing inclusivity within the sport, emphasizing, ‘While triathlon has traditionally been male-dominated, the number of female participants is on the rise.’

Tana’s performance exceeded expectations, even as she dealt with pre-race nerves. ‘Completing the Staffordshire 70.3 was a surreal experience. I finished in 6 hours and 48 minutes,’ she shared, adding, ‘The atmosphere was fantastic, and I’m proud of our team.’

Having a meaningful purpose has fueled her dedication:

‘Our participation supports Great Ormond Street Hospital. A close friend lost her son, and their work in establishing a palliative care unit was remarkable. Whenever training feels overwhelming, I remind myself of the reason behind it.’

Training for ultra-endurance events has created lasting memories. Tana, along with Gordon and their daughter Tilly, completed an Ironman in Greece last October. She posted, ‘The Ramsay family successfully finished the PPC IRONMAN 70.3 Costa Navarino in Greece. Kudos to us!’ Last year, she also participated in the London T100 triathlon.

A devoted marathon runner, Tana is dedicated to her training. ‘It was a wet and muddy morning, but I’m gearing up for my 10th marathon, dedicated to Great Ormond Street. Every step is worth it,’ she shared. When not in active training, she enjoys hiking with her daughter, noting, ‘Morning hikes with Tilly are always an adventure; I’m often left chasing her vibrant ponytail in the distance!’ she wrote.

Her journey often includes running sessions with the family dogs around Wimbledon Common, a time for reflection. Tana shared, ‘When I run with my music, it offers an escape to process my emotions, whether I’m dealing with personal challenges or simply wanting to clear my head.’
