Moore Threads, a leading player in China’s artificial intelligence chip sector, has made a significant entry into the competitive arena of AI coding tools with the introduction of a new service powered by its cutting-edge graphics processing unit (GPU).
On Tuesday, the Beijing-based firm unveiled its “AI Coding Plan,” a comprehensive development suite designed to operate on an entirely domestic hardware-to-model stack. This move signifies a strategic expansion beyond chip manufacturing and into software services aimed at developers.
The realm of AI coding has become a critical battlefield among technology giants from both the US and China. Moore Threads now finds itself in direct competition with established Western entities like Microsoft’s Copilot and Cursor, as well as domestic competitors including Alibaba Group Holding, which owns the South China Morning Post.
The newly launched service is driven by Moore Threads’ MTT S5000 GPU, based on the fourth-generation Pinghu architecture that entered mass production in 2025.
This chip has emerged as a major source of revenue for the company, which recently projected it would triple its earnings this year.
Moore Threads stated that this launch marks a “key breakthrough” for domestically produced chips and large-scale AI coding models. The company contends that China has successfully navigated a long-standing challenge in AI productivity tools by leveraging its own computing capabilities.
