80-Year-Old Achieves Fitness Success and Body Confidence at Gym

**A Journey to Fitness: It’s Never Too Late to Start**

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – At 80 years old, Natalie Sherwood’s journey into fitness began with a vital choice: “survival or the couch.” Seven months into her gym experience, her only regret is that she didn’t start sooner.

Personal trainer Vicki Maysack has been working with Sherwood for about a year and has witnessed remarkable progress.

“When she started, she wasn’t lifting any weights and was mostly walking,” Maysack shared. “Now, we’ve introduced more weight and balance challenges, including exercises using the TRX suspension system.”

These changes have dramatically enhanced Sherwood’s daily life.

“Initially, I had to hold onto things like the counter or my car for support. Now I can stand on my own and even put on my pants without assistance,” Sherwood explained, reflecting on her development.

She can now hold a plank position for 15 seconds and perform dynamic movements like rope and ball slams.

“Every time I can do a plank, I feel a sense of pride. I never thought I’d be capable of that,” Sherwood added.

Maysack has found Sherwood’s progress to be truly inspiring.

“I’m always bragging about her. The transformation—physically and mentally—has been incredible. Her newfound confidence is especially motivating,” Maysack stated.

Sherwood has also observed improvements in her everyday tasks.

“Simple things, like opening jars, don’t feel challenging anymore,” she noted.

The most significant change, however, has been in her body confidence.

“I don’t spend ages deciding what to wear or fixing my hair. I just do it. It’s a shame I had to wait until 80 to feel this confident,” Sherwood expressed.

Both Sherwood and Maysack emphasize that the key to success lies in commitment, consistency, and the crucial idea that it’s never too late to begin.

Moving forward, Sherwood aspires to increase her cardio workouts and plans to visit the gym more often for cycling sessions. Maysack stated they will continue focusing on strength and balance training.

Conclusion: Embracing Fitness at Any Age

Natalie Sherwood’s story illustrates that fitness is not limited by age; it’s about making a commitment and taking that first step. With dedication and the right support, anyone can experience the benefits of an active lifestyle. Whether you’re seeking to improve your strength, balance, or overall confidence, remember: it’s never too late to start your fitness journey. Consider setting small, achievable goals and seek out support, whether from a trainer or a workout buddy, as you embark on your path to health.
