Sushi Tokyo UWS Unveils Exclusive “YeahThatsKosher Roll”

Introducing the exclusive YeahThatsKosher Roll, a limited-time creation now gracing the menu at Sushi Tokyo on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. This unique roll, developed in collaboration with the owner of Sushi Tokyo and YeahThatsKosher, aims to break the mold of traditional sushi offerings.

Instead of sticking to familiar taste profiles, this roll emphasizes a harmonious blend of flavors, allowing sweetness, acidity, tartness, and umami to shine through, all while avoiding heavy sauces and spices.

This creation was conceived by me (Dani of YeahThatsKosher) and meticulously refined alongside my sister and her husband, Lisa and Shlomo Maghen, founders of OmakaseKosherTours, as well as the chef at Sushi Tokyo Manhattan.

The Flavor Concept Behind the YeahThatsKosher Roll

The inspiration for the YeahThatsKosher Roll lies in redefining the typical heat-focused rolls. While spicy options are beloved, this roll invites diners to experience flavors through the refreshing tones of citrus, luscious fruit, and high-quality fish, presenting a thoughtful complexity with each bite.

The roll’s base is crafted from white rice, creating a neutral backdrop. Inside, it features mango for natural sweetness, cucumber for crunch, avocado for creaminess, and fresh lemon for a spark of acidity. These components were selected to foster a harmonious balance without overpowering each other.

On the exterior, the roll is enveloped in lightly torched toro tuna, lending a rich and subtle depth while preserving its delicate essence. Lemon zest enhances the toro’s flavor, complemented by a drizzle of yuzu that introduces floral acidity and a hint of tartness. Scallions contribute freshness and bite, while a gentle finish of toasted sesame oil adds a warm umami that lingers without overshadowing the other flavors.

The final result is a roll that begins with brightness, transitions into creamy sweetness, and culminates in savory, aromatic notes, ensuring no single ingredient steals the limelight.

Sushi Tokyo Upper West Side as the Setting

Located on the Upper West Side, Sushi Tokyo offers a refined sit-down dining experience, distinguishing itself from fast-casual sushi establishments. While it is not an omakase venue, the restaurant is renowned for its high-quality kosher fish, including toro, tuna, and salmon, all served in a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.

In addition to specialty rolls, Sushi Tokyo boasts an extensive menu featuring sushi and Asian-inspired dishes. Patrons can enjoy classic and inventive rolls, sashimi, nigiri, tempura, fried rice, noodle dishes, and various appetizers, providing a comprehensive dining experience whether you desire sushi-centric fare or a mélange of cooked options.

Limited Time and Location Exclusive

The exclusive YeahThatsKosher Roll can only be savored at the Sushi Tokyo Upper West Side location and will be available for a limited time. This specialty is not found at other Sushi Tokyo venues and is not intended to remain on the menu permanently.

You can find Sushi Tokyo at 660 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY, with kosher certification from the OK.

This roll was born from a collaboration between the restaurant and its creators.
