Morgan Freeman to Guest Pick for ESPN’s College GameDay
OXFORD, Miss. — Morgan Freeman, the iconic actor and Mississippi resident, has been named ESPN’s celebrity guest picker for the upcoming College GameDay broadcast. The show will air live from The Grove in Oxford, Mississippi, ahead of the much-anticipated game between No. 8 Ole Miss and No. 7 LSU on September 19.
Sports analyst Pat McAfee announced Freeman’s involvement on his show, stating, “He’s played God, he’s played Nelson Mandela, he’s played a principal, and this weekend, Saturday morning, around noon Eastern time, will be playing celebrity guest here on College GameDay.”
Freeman expressed his excitement about the event, saying, “And I’m looking forward to this game, I promise you.” Despite not being an Ole Miss alumnus, the 89-year-old actor is eager to be part of this significant matchup.
Freeman’s journey to stardom began after serving four years in the U.S. Air Force. He later attended Los Angeles City College while working as a transcript clerk and taking acting lessons. His Broadway debut in the 1968 all-Black version of “Hello, Dolly!” marked the beginning of his illustrious career, which includes starring roles in over 50 films, such as “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Bruce Almighty,” and “Driving Miss Daisy.”
