BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) — At Binghamton University, a professor is developing a groundbreaking tool aimed at helping individuals identify AI-generated content.
Yu Chen initiated his AI project back in 2018, and as the prevalence of AI content grows online, the urgency of this work is becoming increasingly evident.
The innovative program is designed to detect AI-generated or altered content, supported by a $50,000 technology grant from SUNY.
According to Chen, the average person lacks the ability to discern if content has been altered by AI, but everyone should have access to tools that empower them to do so.
“People should be able to watch a video, view a picture, or listen to audio and confidently know whether it has been captured by a camcorder or modified using AI tools,” Chen stated.
Chen emphasized that his tool is built to adapt alongside the rapid advancements in technology.
“Our tool is designed to remain effective despite the fast-paced evolution of technology,” Chen explained. “We aspire to have this technology integrated into various platforms.”
The team is also working towards creating an app that can be used by the public, with a vision of eventually offering it as a feature on social media platforms.
