Metallica Kicks Off “Life Burns Faster” Residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS — Metallica frontman James Hetfield posed a powerful question to fans: “Do you want heavy, Vegas?” The response was a resounding yes as Metallica launched its highly anticipated “Life Burns Faster” concert residency at the Sphere on Thursday, Oct. 1.
Once considered an unlikely setting for the legendary band known for its metal prowess, Las Vegas has evolved into a hotspot for high-profile residencies. Metallica, the bestselling Bay Area band, has sold out every show in this residency, which extends into March.
The show opened with “Battery,” a classic from Master of Puppets, marking its first use as an opener in over a dozen years. The energy ramped up further with a thunderous rendition of “Creeping Death” from Ride the Lightning.
Complementing their performance, the Sphere showcased breathtaking video graphics on an impressive 16K resolution wraparound LED screen. The stage design featured an arrow shape with a central hollow space, allowing fans in the “Snake Pit” to see the musicians up close.
In an innovative move, the audience’s reactions were reflected on the giant screen during “Battery,” creating an immersive environment akin to 360-degree stadiums. As the set progressed, the visual themes transformed dramatically: from a rainy wasteland for “Creeping Death” to stained glass imagery for “Now That We’re Dead.”
The concert concluded with a powerful blend of “Seek & Destroy” and “Master of Puppets,” setting the stage for Night 2, featuring a completely different setlist as part of the residency’s “No Repeat Weekend” format.
Here’s the setlist from Oct. 1, 2027:
- Battery
