SDG&E Readies for Extended Heat Wave and Rising Energy Needs

San Diego is preparing for an extended heat wave with extreme temperatures and wildfire risks. An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued, forecasting highs of around 90°F near the coast and reaching the upper 90s to mid-100s inland. San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is urging residents to conserve energy, particularly between 4 and 9 p.m., when demand peaks.

Energy Conservation Tips:

  • Pre-cool your home earlier in the day.
  • Adjust the thermostat a few degrees higher.
  • Close blinds and shades to block heat.
  • Use fans to limit air conditioning.
  • Delay using major appliances until after 9 p.m.
  • Unplug electronics when not in use.
  • Visit Cool Zones for air-conditioned respite.

Additional Recommendations:

  • Stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activities during peak heat.
  • Check on vulnerable individuals in your community.
  • Ensure your mobile devices are charged.
  • Review household emergency supplies.
  • Keep your contact information updated in My Energy Center.
