Markel Insurance Launches New CORE Offering for Energy Sector
LONDON, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Markel Insurance, part of Markel Group Inc. (NYSE: MKL), has introduced its Chemical, Oil, and Gas-related Energy Property (CORE) offering. Candice Walker has been appointed as Head of First-Party Energy, and Michael McClain as Senior Underwriter – Energy.
Overview of CORE Offering
The new product strengthens Markel’s U.S. First-Party Energy proposition, offering tailored property solutions for small to midsize businesses in the chemical, oil, gas, and broader energy sectors. This includes:
- Coverage for:
- Industrial organic chemicals
- Petrochemicals
- Natural gas transmission and storage
- Gas processing
- Midstream and downstream operations
The offering provides coverage for property damage, business interruption, and equipment breakdown, with limits up to $50 million for both primary and excess-of-loss scenarios.
Walker will lead this initiative, collaborating with existing underwriting teams to deliver a comprehensive solution to U.S.-based risks.
Leadership Experience
Candice Walker brings over 20 years of property insurance experience and has been with Markel since 2015. Her previous roles include Senior Underwriter and Director in various capacities, where she successfully developed tailored insurance solutions.

Michael McClain, based in Texas, will work under Walker to direct the CORE offering and enhance relationships within the First-Party Energy portfolio.
