13 Classic Halloween Thoughts

friday the 13th 2Are you excited for Halloween? Although I don’t typically decorate or attend many Halloween gatherings, I absolutely love indulging in scary films at this time of year. They carry an extra touch of “creepiness” that I really enjoy! This year, I’ve decided to enhance my movie collection and aim to watch a classic horror film each night leading up to Halloween week.

While I’m not a fan of films centered around demons or malevolent spirits—think “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” or “Carrie”—I do have a soft spot for movies featuring serial killers and zombies. 🙂

friday the 13thThe “Friday the 13th” franchise is among the most successful in American cinema, showcasing the infamous mass murderer Jason Voorhees (who admittedly wasn’t the killer in the first film). With twelve movies in total, I’ve only seen a handful, so a marathon should be an entertaining challenge!

nightmare on elm streetAnother beloved franchise is “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” which consists of nine films. The collection I have includes the original seven movies; the ninth is a 2010 remake. While I used to be terrified of Freddy Krueger as a child, I find these films amusing now—mostly due to the aging special effects that can appear slightly silly. And let’s not forget a young Johnny Depp features in the first installment!

Halloween-movieMy absolute favorite is undoubtedly “Halloween.” Many consider Michael Myers’ story to be one of the best in horror cinema. Watching the original film brings back nostalgic memories of the times I used to watch it as a child, and it never fails to scare me. If you’re planning to watch just one movie this Halloween and haven’t seen this classic yet, make it this one!

shaun of the deadI can’t resist mentioning “Shaun of the Dead,” even though it’s a comedy; a comedy that features zombies! The film follows Shaun, who decides to turn his life around after an awful day—only to find himself in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. The story is genuinely original and makes me laugh every time. Plus, I adore Simon Pegg and Nick Frost!

pumpkin gooey cake

Despite some recent controversy surrounding Paula Deen, her pumpkin gooey butter cake remains my go-to Autumn dessert. I love to bake it on movie nights; not only does it fill the house with a cozy aroma, but it also makes for a delightful Halloween treat!

What’s your favorite Halloween movie?
