A widely used dietary supplement is currently being recalled across the country due to its association with 45 reported illnesses and 12 hospitalizations in 21 states, including Massachusetts.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that these cases are linked to a Salmonella outbreak associated with Live It Up Super Greens supplement powder.
As of January 23, no fatalities have been reported.
Salmonella can lead to severe and sometimes life-threatening infections, particularly in young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
“Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella typically experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain,” warns the Food and Drug Administration.
“In rare cases, Salmonella infection can enter the bloodstream, leading to more severe illnesses such as arterial infections.”
Consumers are strongly encouraged to cease using these products immediately and either dispose of them or return them for a refund.
