Harris Reed: A Season of Reflection and Theatrical Fashion
This season is pivotal for Harris Reed, who has transitioned from his role as creative director at Nina Ricci to focusing solely on his signature line. He plans to open a salon in Hatton Garden, east London, aiming to create a more comfortable environment for his clientele compared to his busy studio.
Reed’s latest collection draws inspiration from queens and goddesses, showcasing an all-white palette with dramatic features and corsetry. His designs, including tall pouf shoulders and rigid jacquard corsets, evoke the elegance of historical figures like Queen Elizabeth I and Marie Antoinette.
The show opened with model Ashley Graham in a form-fitting corset and flowing semi-sheer skirt, complemented by other models in luxurious lace and fabric. Reed’s collection, albeit restrained, maintains the dramatic flair his clients desire.
Reflecting on his creative process, Reed expressed, “I wanted to strip it back to ’50 shades of white’ while exploring new fabrics like custom jacquard and embroidery.” He aims to embrace theatrical elements in fashion, emphasizing that London remains a hub for elaborate, artistic designs.
In a world where theatricalism reigns, Reed believes it is essential to stay true to the dramatic essence that attracts customers to his work.
