Driving While Intoxicated Charge for Postal Service Driver
A postal service driver from Parsippany-Troy Hills, N.J., was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing into a parked vehicle on New Road last month.
On September 20, police responded to reports of a driver unconscious at the wheel near 130 New Road. Upon arrival, officers found 44-year-old Abhijit S. Mokashi unconscious inside the postal van that had struck another vehicle.
The parked car’s owner informed police their vehicle was hit by the van. After waking Mokashi, officers noted the smell of alcohol on his breath, red and watery eyes, and slurred speech. Despite having no memory of the incident, Mokashi refused medical assistance.
Field sobriety tests led to his arrest for driving while intoxicated. He also received summonses for reckless driving, careless driving, and failure to maintain a lane. The crash only caused damage to the parked vehicle; no injuries were reported.
Mokashi was released to a family member and is scheduled for a court appearance on October 29.
