3 Mantras for Greater Happiness and Peace

Mantras to Live By

Throughout the years, I’ve learned a significant truth: small, often overlooked changes in our daily lives can greatly influence our overall happiness. This includes the way we react to situations and the thoughts we nurture within ourselves.

One powerful tool at our disposal is the use of daily mantras.

Mantras are phrases or sounds that we repeat to ourselves each day. Often, we utilize them unknowingly, but too frequently, this self-talk veers negative—reminding us of our shortcomings or mistakes.

There is only one cause of unhappiness; false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, and so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them.”

Anthony de Mello

Continuously repeating negative thoughts can hinder our progress. However, by embracing just one daily mantra, we can transform our mindset and truly see ourselves in a new light.

While mantras are commonly associated with prayer and meditation, their effectiveness is not confined to any particular religious or spiritual belief. Whether we are aware of it or not, we all use them; the key is to consciously integrate mantras that promote healing, love, peace, acceptance, and joy into our lives.

MANTRAS TO LIVE BY (FOR MORE HAPPINESS + PEACE)

I AM RECEIVING RIGHT NOW

Whatever you feel you are lacking—be it inspiration, love, finances, motivation, relationships, or creativity—affirm to yourself every day: I am receiving right now. Begin this habit as soon as you wake up. This powerful mantra fosters a mindset of gratitude, encouraging you to recognize the abundance that already surrounds you: friends, family, good health, job opportunities, and the things you cherish.

We often find ourselves desiring more—more money, more love, more experiences. However, to receive more, one must first cultivate gratitude for what they already possess. This simple shift can profoundly alter your perspective. For example, I used to view myself as someone who appreciated my health until I faced an injury; that experience taught me how often I had taken it for granted. Despite the tough days, I start every morning with the mantra: I am receiving right now.

COMPARE NO MORE

This mantra is borrowed from Gabby. Comparison is a common trap we all fall into, and it stifles our creativity while fostering jealousy. Releasing yourself from this habit requires awareness. You might think, “I wish I could do that too.” Conversely, you might find yourself judging others while simultaneously trying to elevate your own self-worth. This back-and-forth can be draining.

Social media amplifies this comparison culture. I encountered a post from a successful blogger who shared their new car, prompting judgmental comments like “you should be more humble.” Instead, we could draw inspiration from their journey of perseverance and success. It’s illogical to feel envious; after all, material things cannot offer lasting happiness.

Consider this: if someone has worked tirelessly to transform their life and inspire others, why is it wrong to acknowledge their success? Seeing admirable traits in others is often a reflection of what we might aspire to. Comparing yourself to others does a disservice to your unique journey. Instead, measure growth by comparing yourself to who you were yesterday. Celebrate your achievements and challenges.

LET GO

Let go of the past, toxic relationships, the pursuit of perfection, and any bitterness. Holding onto these burdens prevents us from moving forward. Many of us cling to memories or grievances that hinder our growth. Although forgiveness can be challenging, the tranquility that follows is invaluable. Focus on what you can control, let go of the rest, and understand that you have the power to choose.

If trivial annoyances get to you, remind yourself to release them. When you sense frustration creeping in, simply think, “I let go.”

We often fall into the trap of self-defeating declarations: “I can’t be happy because of my past, or it’s too late for me.”

But I’m here to remind you that yes, you can. Regardless of your past or present situation, growth and happiness are within your reach. The first step is shedding those limiting beliefs and experiences that confine you.

It is your responsibility to let go.

So, tomorrow morning, as you awaken, remind yourself: “I am receiving, right now.” Whenever you feel a lack or sadness, repeat it. Although you may question the validity of such affirmations initially, consider how often you express that you “can’t” or that you’re “not good enough”—isn’t that just as nonsensical?
