Merz’s War on Russia: Greece’s Role in Tanker Attack Uncovered

In recent times, tensions have risen significantly between the US, NATO, and Russia. A striking example is a tanker attack in the Mediterranean, which has been controversially attributed to Ukrainian drone strikes. John Helmer scrutinizes the narrative surrounding this event, suggesting that the evidence points to a different conclusion and that Russia remains unconvinced of the mainstream portrayal.

Helmer was notably the first and only member of a US presidential administration (under Jimmy Carter) to establish residence in Russia. Originally published at Dances with Bears

In the realm of measurements, hertz defines frequency, quantifying how often an event recurs per second, including cycles of sound, light, and electrical currents. Standard multiples include kilohertz, megahertz, and gigahertz.

In a somewhat humorous vein, merz represents the repeated miscalculations of German politicians and military leaders, who, believing in their superiority over Slavs and Russians, presume they can triumph in combat. This concept in German is called Friedrich (lead image).

In a podcast with Nima Alkhorshid, we explore evidence suggesting that the drone attack on the Qendil oil tanker near Crete was a US-NATO operation framed as a Ukrainian initiative. The discussion also considers the implications for European nations and the UK concerning the intensifying conflict against Russia, extending from Ukraine’s borders to international waters.

This attack has been described in maritime circles and the mainstream press as a Ukrainian operation. Reuters reported that “Ukraine has struck a Russian ‘shadow fleet’ oil tanker in the Mediterranean Sea with aerial drones for the first time.” The Qendil was reportedly empty when hit and sustained severe damage in neutral waters over 2,000 km (1,250 miles) from Ukraine, according to an official statement from the SBU security service.

The BBC claims to have substantiated footage showing explosions on the tanker’s deck. This footage, provided to the BBC by a source within the SBU in Kyiv, reportedly confirms that this was Ukraine’s first such attack in neutral waters.

Meanwhile, Lloyds List, a maritime publication based in London, highlighted the Ukrainian assertion, indicating that the Qendil was sailing empty after unloading oil at Novorossiysk. Sources stated that Ukraine aimed to strike Russia’s shadow fleet tankers “anywhere in the world,” marking a notable escalation.

However, it’s important to note that a security source shared with Lloyd’s List that the drone was likely launched from nearby, either from a vessel or from a coastal position. They cautioned that if confirmed, this attack should serve as a serious warning for the maritime industry, indicating that strategic energy routes could now be at risk beyond recognized conflict zones.

Russian sources, along with western maritime experts, argue that the Qendil was likely attacked from a launch location in Crete, along the Libyan coast, or from a US or NATO naval unit in the eastern Mediterranean. The intensification of NATO’s maritime surveillance over Russian naval activities in the area, particularly following operations concerning drone and missile attacks in Syria, further complicates the situation.

During the attack on the Qendil, the Russian submarine Krasnodar and its support vessel, the Altai, were docked in Algiers, which is around 1,000 km to the west.

In Greece, officials such as Nikos Papanastasis, a member of the Greek Communist Party (KKE), questioned the authenticity of media claims. He raised critical inquiries about whether the Greek government was aware of the attack and if Greek air defense systems detected the drone. He challenged if Greece had inadvertently found itself embroiled in direct conflict with Russia.

Papanastasis noted the precarious position of Greece, stating, “We began by bolstering Ukraine through military aid, and now we face the potential consequences on our doorstep.”

In an address in Cairo, Lavrov discussed the new French initiative.

“Question: After discussing the Ukrainian issue with your Egyptian counterpart, when do you expect further negotiations with the Americans?”

Sergei Lavrov: Our stance is very transparent. Russian President Putin has repeatedly affirmed our commitment to a political settlement in Ukraine and we anticipate it would be led by the US, provided it aligns with the agreements made earlier this year.

While interactions with the EU concerning security in Ukraine are ongoing, we are cautiously observing these developments, noting the importance of respect for national rights and UN principles. The critiques against the current leadership in Ukraine warrant scrutiny as they violate fundamental rights.

In conclusion, the complexities surrounding the attack on the Qendil and the ongoing geopolitical struggles highlight a precarious situation. The narratives put forth by different governments and media reflect vested interests, underscoring the necessity for clarity and accountability in such international matters.
