Do you find yourself constantly worrying?
When anxiety consumes your thoughts, it can leave you feeling uneasy and out of control. I can relate to this all too well.
Not long ago, I found myself in a challenging phase, feeling overwhelmed and drained. It was one of those days where emotional fatigue felt like being hit by a truck. During this time, I noticed that my anxiety levels were rising, prompting a realization.
I discovered that it had been a while since I truly felt this way. Years ago, this was my everyday reality—a state of perpetual worry and discomfort.
Back then, I was frequently anxious and irritable. I recognized that no significant changes had occurred in my life, yet I had transformed. My circumstances had largely remained the same, but my perspective and reactions to life’s challenges had evolved.
5 SIMPLE SHIFTS TO BRING MORE POSITIVITY TO YOUR LIFE
EMBRACE THE POWER OF CHOICE
This might be a challenging concept to grasp initially, the idea that happiness can sometimes stem from a conscious choice. However, scientific research supports this notion, highlighting that our thought patterns significantly influence our wellbeing. While many aspects of life may be beyond our control, your reactions are entirely in your hands. You have the option to spend your life mired in negativity, or you can choose to cultivate gratitude and passion. Remember, having a positive perspective doesn’t equate to living a flawless life.
It doesn’t imply that struggles will vanish, that moments of defeat will cease, or that disappointment is absent. I still encounter such challenges; however, I’ve learned to view those experiences as lessons instead of obstacles—essential for growth.
“Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive, because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive, because your behavior becomes your habit. Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny.” Mahatma Gandhi
Here’s the truth:
You deserve a joyful, fulfilling life just as much as anyone else. Your existence isn’t meant to be a constant struggle. If something doesn’t serve you, change it. Divert your energy away from toxic people, enhance your diet, go for a run, try meditation, face your fears, or explore new experiences. Take charge instead of allowing life to unfold without your input.
Change is beneficial. Just as you would tidy up your workspace, declutter your life by distancing yourself from negativity. Spend less time with individuals who dwell on pessimism and gossip. If necessary, steer conversations towards uplifting topics, or simply remove yourself from negative environments. A few years ago, I found this less bothersome; now, I can hardly tolerate negativity.
DISCOVER YOUR PASSION
Engage in activities that spark joy in you. For instance, I found that starting a blog greatly helped me cope with depression, as detailed in this post. Identify what ignites your happiness and immerse yourself in it daily. Even the smallest activities can be fulfilling—make time for them.

SHINE YOUR LIGHT
We all know someone who lights up our spirits—their positivity, laughter, and support help us feel better. If you don’t have such a person in your life, strive to be that source of positivity for others. Bring joy to those around you through smiles, compliments, and constructive feedback when necessary.
Resisting negativity won’t erase bad feelings. To foster a more positive life, actively invite positivity into your world. Just as a glass cannot be filled without adding water, happiness cannot flourish amidst constant negativity. Acknowledge that negative thoughts have their roles but instead of resisting them, cultivate positivity and kindness in your daily interactions.
One effective way to do this is by showing kindness to others. Send a thoughtful note to a friend, treat someone to lunch, write a heartfelt letter, or give a small gift. Make it a point to spread goodwill every single day.
LEARN TO LET GO
Release what you cannot control, including people and events that do not serve your well-being. Forgive others and more importantly, forgive yourself. Life may bring challenges, heartbreaks, and disappointments, but these experiences often carry lessons. Hinge on those lessons, but let the past fade. Fretting over previous events or future uncertainties distracts from your energy. This is a gradual process, so take it day by day.
FIND THE GOOD IN EVERYTHING
This approach is crucial, particularly in relationships and trying times. Avoid jumping to conclusions, judging, or comparing. Let go of negativity and drama. Focus on the best traits of those around you, especially when conflicts arise. By concentrating on the positives in everything and everyone, you’ll uncover a wealth of gratitude.
While it’s impossible to monitor every thought or prevent negative emotions from surfacing, embracing mindfulness can significantly enhance your outlook. The more you practice mindfulness, the more attuned you’ll become to the dips in your energy from negativity like gossip and judgment.
